Malik Mansurov was born in 1962 in Qazakh, north-west of Azerbaijan. His parents were amateur musicians and encouraged him to play the tar at the age of 9, at the Sumgayit music school, near Baku. Five years later in 1977 he joined the Takhnikum. Music school and another four years later, he won the first prize in the national school contest which was held in Ganja. In 1981 he joined "Baku Music Academy". His teachers were Aref Ma'aramov, together with Malik Quliev and Oktay Quliev. He also made use of the recordings of the old masters such as: Qurban pirimov, Salianly Shirin, Haji Mamedov, bahram Mansurov, Ehsan Dadashov and Sarvar Ibrahimov. Malik's style puts him close to Haji Mamedov, E. Dadashov and B. Mansurov, but he believes that he is still too young to claim having his own style, and that he cannot make any self evaluation. ...
